Message from the President

With the 46th Annual Fall Workshop now history, I would like to thank all the I.D.E.A. members who worked or participated to make the 46th Annual I.D.E.A. Fall Conference a huge success. This was the second year that the conference was held at Heartland Community College and based on the responses; the facilities here are exceptional.

I would also like to thank the board members who also made the workshop a success. To Tim Bacak, our 2002-2003 president, for putting forth great effort to see things ran smoothly by coordinating efforts for the workshop. To Ryan Brown, Chris Merrill and Mark Anderson who made sure everything ran well for the Thursday portion of the workshop. For Mark DeJarnett, who stepped up to fill-in as Secretary for us this year, and put together our vendor lineup for the workshop - this was a huge blessing. For Kevin Koeppen as he quickly figured out that there is more to do than sell T-shirts! For Howard Miller and his eagle eye on our finances, that provides great comfort. For our Executive Secretary, John Connolly, who somehow is always able to piece it all together.

I would also like to recognize Mark Schwendau, for his continual faithful work in developing and maintaining our web site (www.idea-online.org). Please check out the web site, it has a wealth of information. We have had several positive comments on the organization and usability of the site.

Congratulations to Westwood College on 2003 Vendor of the Year, thank you for your continued support. Also congratualtions to Steve Skorup of Waubonsie Valley High School for winning the R. Tim Phillip Award for Excellence in Drafting Education.

The 46th Workshop covered a wide range of topics from new CAD software to rapid prototyping, architectural college programs, GIS/GPS, RC car curriculum and rendering solid models. As I look back at the choices that were available, I wonder what I missed in the sessions I was unable to attend. In addition to the great offerings a curriculum fair was test piloted. The feedback of the curriculum fair was very positive. We will continue to try and improve this portion of our workshop. As always, we are open to your comments on how we can improve. Please feel free to correspond via e-mail. You can e-mail your comments to me, your I.D.E.A. President, Chip Finck, at chipfinck@yahoo.com.

Thanks to all who participate as members of this great organization. I look forward to serving you as president this year. Let's all encourage others in this discipline to join with us in membership and service. May God bless you all.

Chip Finck, I.D.E.A. President
