| The 44th Annual Fall Workshop is now history. I would like to thank everyone who helped to make it a success. To Ryan Brown, Chris Merrill and Mark Anderson on their efforts to make the Thursday workshop such a success. For our 2001 President Bob De Vries, for going that extra mile to setup the CPDU credits, for all the great leadership and support this past year, a true servant leader. For Louis Torres, the exiting Past President, who's passion to perfect the membership directory has brought our records as close to perfection as I believe they have ever been. For Tim Bacak, our Secretary, who's "can do" attitude was demonstrated as he efficiently and effectively arranged all activities assoicated with one of the best vendor turn-outs in recent history. For Chip Finck, our Member-At-Large, who availed himself to the "duties as assigned" clause and did so as one who is called to serve. For Howard Miller, our Financial Director, who, when given a challenge refrains with "no problem" and trust me, he's right. |
I could go on-and-on doting over these fellows but if I want their continued support, I had better move on.

I would also like to recognize Mark Schwendau for his faithful work as he continues to develop and maintain our web site. You should check out this world-class web site frequently
(www.IDEA-Online.org). Many outside of our organization have commented on the professional image the IDEA conveys through this site.

Please remember to support our vendors this year. Congratulations to JBH Technologies as our 2001 vendor of the year. Thanks John Heidtman for your years of faithful support to this organization. Also, congratulations to Steve Schuerman of Lewis & Clark Community College for winning the R. Tim Phillip Award for excellence in drafting education. Steve has served this organization faithfully for many years, previously as Assistant Competition Director. Currenty Steve represents the IDEA as a Regional Competition Director for Lewis & Clark Community College.

The 44th Workshop represented a subtle but deliberate migration to address pedagogical issues for drafting educators. This year we focused on areas where we could help teachers teach. From seminars covering interests in architecture and parametric design to drafting standards, we recognized the great importance in developing lesson plans that make students more valuable as they enter the workforce. New areas of emerging interest as GIS/GPS were showcased (over 50,000 are trained each year in this area with more job openings than skilled technicians).

As I survey the sessions available at this workshop, I can't help but to think of what I missed in those sessions I was unable to attend. What would be your interest if we could assemble information in the form of a book, CD ROM, web site, or video presentation? Please let me know and I will compile your feedback and present it to the board. You can e-mail your comments to me at mmorgan@lc.cc.il.us

Thanks to all who participate as members of this great organization. I look forward to serving you as President this year. Lets all work together to encourage others in this discipline to join with us in membership and service. May God bless you and yours this Holiday Season.

Mike Morgan,
IDEA President | We still have some blanks to fill in on the AWARDS page and HISTORY page. One thing you can all do to help us fill in the blanks is look around for old issues of our IDEA newsletter ("On the Board") and send them to me if they hold answers. The MEMBERS page is not yet complete but we are getting there. If you find errors or omissions, please contact me, Schwendau@AOL.com, via e-mail with a detailed description of the problem. We can all use this web site as a calling card to entice new VENDORS and MEMBERS into joining our organization. For the record, we had over 3,000 hits in our first year of operation. Mark Schwendau, IDEA Webmaster Our web site has been nominated to receive an award from "Tech Directions" magazine! If you would like to learn more about the process, or cast your own nominations, check out their web address and stay tuned for the results in their May edition, HERE. |
