| It's hard to believe this school year is almost over and the drafting contest has come and gone. Congratulations to those who advanced to state and also to those who placed at state. I appreciate, and I know the students do too, the extra effort put forth by teachers to get students ready for the contest and taking a Saturday out of your schedules. I also appreciate the executive board of the IDEA working together and putting on a great contest. Thanks to Mike Morgan for filling in for me as president while I was on call to go to the hospital for the arrival of a new baby! (It's a girl, by the way.) | ||||||||||||

Jim Petersen has done a fantastic job fulfilling his duties as competition director. None of us will know how many hours he put in over the years. This was Jim's last contest as he is looking forward to a well-deserved retirement. Thanks Jim and good luck! Thanks also to Dr. Ryan Brown for hosting the contest. The facilites are great and the organization appreciates your efforts! Richard Johannsen and Dr. Chris Merrill have gone through their first official contest on the executive board. We look forward to your leadership in the future to move the contest to the next level.
Mark your calender now for the 44th Annual IDEA Fall Conference and Workshop on November 8th and 9th.

We've had some teachers express an interest in presenting workshops but we need more. I think it's important for veteran teachers to share what they are doing in the classroom. There have been some interesting workshops in the past and I'm sure the tradition will continue. An added incentive to attend is that the IDEA is now an approved provider by the ISBE to give CPDU's for certificate renewal. We will have the paperwork for you at the fall conference to get one CPDU for each clock hour you attend the various workshops. Encourage your colleagues who are not members to join the IDEA. Together we can make this a better organization.

My opinion is that a web site can only be as good as the folks that stand behind it by providing it content. If you find errors or omissions, please contact me, Mark Schwendau, via e-mail with a detailed description of the problem. We need to work together to better complete the AWARDS, HISTORY, LINKS and MEMBERS pages. Also, we can all use this web site as a calling card to entice new VENDORS into joining our organization. One of my goals is to get all drafting educators of Illinois listed in our MEMBERS page. By accomplishing this task, those of us at the post-secondary level of education can better research what is happening around the state and issue reports to our IDEA officers for their possible public comments or actions. Hence, it is my hope that this new web site contributes to our solidarity of purpose. Mark Schwendau, IDEA Webmaster
