| Weclome back! I hope your summer was not only enjoyable but restful as well. As we all get back into the swing of things, it is not too early to start thinking about the IDEA CAD User Day and Annual Fall Workshop to be held on November 13th and 14th. The executive board has been hard at work planning this event keeping in mind all the great suggestions that were brought forth at last year's conference. Your suggestions greatly influenced our scope and were much appreciated. | |
We have a great lineup starting with our CAD User Day on November 13th at Illinois State University's Turner Hall. The day will begin with a presentation from Autodesk followed by J.C. Malitzke, who will do a presentation on "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of AutoCAD 2004". The afternoon will be exciting with breakout sessions on Revit, Inventor, and a hands-on AutoCAD 2004. Also, as one of our breakout sessions on Thursday's CAD User Day, there will be an opportunity to beta test an experimental solid modeling exam that will be given at this year's state contest in the spring. If all goes well, this may then become a new contest division. I'd like to thank Ryan Brown for all of his hard work in the conceptualization of this new division for our annual spring contest.

The day will conclude with the Past President's reception at the Chateau in Bloomington (formerly Jumers) hosted by Mike Morgan. There will be a block of rooms held under the IDEA name offered at a significant price reduction. Single room rates will go for $65 while double occupancy will be priced at $75 a night. Please make your accomodations as soon as possible by calling the Chateau at 309.662.2020 as there will be only 30 rooms held until November 1st on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Friday, November 14th, the IDEA Workshop and luncheon will, once again, be held at Heartland Community College located at 1500 W. Raab Road in Normal. This day is sure to be beneficial for any drafting educator with the return of Jeff and Jerry Bartels, the ever popular J.C. Malitzke, and Jim Dicker from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee's School of Architecture and Urban Planning. There will also be presentations of an array of Autodesk products, affordable rapid prototyping, animated screen capture lessons and GIS use in CAD.

I would like to make mention of a few more items. First, we are encouraging members to sign up for our electronic newsletter in lieu of the traditional mailed copy when you register for the conference and/or renew your membership. As a way to encourage this, we will apply a $5 discount to your membership dues, which is approximately equal to our postage and printing costs per member per year.
| |
Second, we will be offering a curriculum exchange for instructors who attend the Friday conference. We encourage you to bring a sample of something to share with your colleagues in an effort to promote, encourage and inspire our craft.
| |
I look forward to seeing you in November.

We are still looking for two mystery Outstanding Drafting Educators from the years 1995 and 1996. Someone out there has to be able to help us fill in these last two blanks!
