Message from the President

The 2001-02 school year is off and running. I hope you have plans to attend the 44th annual IDEA Fall Conference scheduled for November 8th and 9th. Thursday will be the CAD users day program held at Illinois State University in Turner Hall. Mark Anderson, CAD users day chairman, is offering a fine lineup of speakers with some hands-on activities. Mike Morgan has several presentations ready for the Friday workshop at the Holiday Inn. Topics include; CAD/CAM, GIS, AIA standards and AutoCAD Tutorials. Rserve your hotel room early at (309) 452-8300 (or here). The Holiday Inn is located at I-55 and US-51. Mention the IDEA when you make your room reservation.

With your support and participation the IDEA will continue to grow and assist you in your professional development. Remember, you can get CPDU's for this conference. We will have the oppropriate forms for you to fill out. One clock hour of workshop time equals one CPDU. I know many of you are in the process of renewing your certificates so this is an excellent opportunity to get those needed hours.

The R. Tim Phillip drafting teacher of the year award is presented at the fall conference. Nomination information is on page 9 (of the newsletter or here). Please take time to nominate a deserving teacher. I know there are many.

Finally, if you know of any drafting teachers that are not members or have not recently attended a conference, encourage them to do so. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the conference. Check the web site (www.IDEA-Online.org) for updated conference information. Don't hesitate to contact a board member with ideas and suggestions. We are here to serve the membership.

Bob De Vries, President, IDEA

Webmaster's Message

We still have some blanks to fill in on the AWARDS page and HISTORY page. One thing you can all do to help us fill in the blanks is look around for old issues of our IDEA newsletter and send them to me if they hold answers. The MEMBERS page is not yet complete but we are getting there. If you find errors or omissions, please contact me, Mark Schwendau, via e-mail with a detailed description of the problem. We can all use this web site as a calling card to entice new VENDORS and MEMBERS into joining our organization. For the record, we had over 3,000 hits in our first year of operation.

Mark Schwendau, IDEA Webmaster

We Have Been Nominated!!

Our web site has been nominated to receive an award from "Tech Directions" magazine! If you would like to learn more about the process, or cast your own nominations, check out their web address and stay tuned for the results in their May edition, HERE.
