..... As the IDEA finishes its first fifty years and embarks on another fifty I feel very proud and fortunate to be filling the position of IDEA President. The original members of our organization surely couldn’t have imagined where the computer revolution would take us. Staying grounded in the same principles taught at our organizations conception, embracing the new tools of today and tomorrow, all while transferring our knowledge and experience to the next generation is what it is all about. How fortunate we are to be drafting educators!

..... Each and every member of the IDEA deserves tremendous thanks from the organization and their students. The contributions you make promoting and teaching our craft run deep and wide. There is no doubt that without you, the drafting educator, drafting could not be what it is for our students today.

..... I would like to present a single challenge to each and every member. That challenge is for you to recruit one new member this year. As I brought-up at the annual conference, the IDEA is great, but we could always be better. Let’s do all we can to improve our organization! If we each brought on one new member this year it would mean wonderful things for our organization and our students. There are many drafting educators in the state of Illinois who are not part of the IDEA. Let’s seek them out and bring them into our outstanding organization…the IDEA!

..... Stay in touch, stay involved, participate in the competitions and the annual conference, and consider serving on the executive board. Most of all, bring in a drafting educator friend and get them involved. Let’s further our love for drafting by passing it on, and to more people than ever before.
